Irrespective of the socio economic background, it is a fact that young girls are at a higher risk of being sexually exploited than boys. The situation of girl child in Indian is very deprived. One of the problems, in society related to girl child is prostitution. There are estimated to be over 9 lakhs sex workers in India and 30 percent are believed to be children. Recent reports estimate that the number of children involved in prostitution is increasing at 8 to 10 percent per year. Most of the prostitutes are below the age of 20 years. The problem of prostitution in India is more complicated than any other country because sexual exploitation of children has deep rooted in Indian traditional practices, beliefs and gender discrimination. Some practices e.g. practice of Devdasi which is socially acceptable. Through this practice young girls are given to god. Some more to worsen the situation are child marriage, poverty and so forth. This paper mainly deals with the problem of prostitution in Indian with the perspective of human rights. It will be analytical study based on secondary data with the special references. This paper will mainly analyzed the situation in broader perspective and conclude with the suggestive actions.
